Hi
I have a assembled desktop with following config.
-Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
- 240 MB RAM
and when i plug-out the RAM form it read as
- RC Memory PC3200DDR
- some serail no
So my question are
(1) Is my processor suffice for windows 7
(2) (as I wanted to increase the RAM to 2 GB) what should be the market price of 2 GB RAM, What should I ask the retailer to get the correct RAM,
further if I want to retain windows XP , which is very sluggish these days, will the increase the RAM speed it up ?

Hi,
I am certain the processor will suffice and the additional RAM will make the system a lot faster on Windows XP as well.
You currently have DDR 1 400 Mhz RAM on the system as per the specification providedby you. You can just ask the retailer for the DDR 1 400 Mhz RAM for PIV. They will give you the correct RAM. As for the prices, well the prices change so rapidly now-a-days, one can never surely say. You should try two three retailers before purchasing.
I would recommend you to go with the Windows 7 upgrade, however you did not mention the video card that you have on the system. If it is an integrated card, you may not be able to use the Aero features of windows 7.
Other than that it would work fine.

Yeah that's correct.
You have the 865 G Integrated graphics contoller. I am afraid this will not be able to run Windows 7 Aero features.
You can check if your motherbaord has a PCI Express x16 or AGP slot, you can go for a discrete graphics card. That will boost the performance of the system and you will also be able to play many games.

Please check this image. Compare it with a free slot on your motherboard. Please do not confuse these with the empty off white PCI slots, they are smaller in size and do not have a latch at the end. In case you are unable to figure out, attach an image to this post or send us an email with the image to support@probcomp.com, we will provide you with the relevant information.
Regarding a cost effective option, if you are not an enthusiast gamer you can go for the Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS card. It comes in many variants, I have used the 512 MB model from Sparkle. It performed good for me. I got it for Rs. 2000, I think about an year ago.
I would recommend that you check for the available offers with a retailer, I would mention that AGP cards are costlier than PCI Express X16 cards as AGP is an outdated technology and very few manufacturers are manufacturing these cards.
