DirectX 9.0c problem in Call of Duty 2

I bought Call of Duty 2 on Steam, and it said I need DirectX 9.0c. So I downloaded it, but when I try to open it says "Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for Help."
I have no idea what to do. I'm not a noob at computers, but I've never seen anything like this before. Any help would be much appreciated.

Where are you running the file from ? Create a folder on your root C: drive and call it tmp i.e. c:\tmp.
Place the install file in that directory and then try to execute it.

Ok. That worked to install DirectX, but now when I try to run Call of Duty 2, I get the error "DirectX ® has encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the DirectX ® FAQ for possible solutions."
I have tried all the things in the FAQ and it still isn't working.

You might need to force reinstall DirectX. Follow the given procedure
- GO TO Start > Run > Type regedit. Press Enter or OK.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ DirectX
- Change the value of version from eg. '4.09.00.0904' to '4.08.00.0904'.
- Now run the DirectX installer.

That fixed the error but I still get the game doesn’t work it crashes.

Get the latest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer’s website, that should fix the issue.
